Island University Spring Commencement Features Garrett Frazier ’04 as Guest Speaker

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many years of hard work and dedication will come to fruition at the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremonies, when more than 1,200 Islander students will receive degrees. The ceremonies will be held on Saturday, May 18, at the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi. Students from the Colleges of Education at Human Development, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Science will graduate at 10 a.m.; students from the Colleges of Business, Engineering and Computer Science, and the School of Arts, Media, & Communication will graduate at 2 p.m.

This year’s commencement speaker is Garrett Frazier ’04, who earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Frazier used his degree to springboard into several successful businesses, including his own marketing company called Magnifico Media. He is also a partner at an outdoor technical product company called ANETIK. He was also instrumental in building his family’s business, Magnum Oil Tools International Ltd., into a global powerhouse in the oil and gas industry. Frazier is currently the director at Frazier Companies, which invests in and develops assets in a variety of industries such as hospitality, commercial, and luxury real estate.

“In my commencement address, I hope to connect with the students through my family’s unique story, highlighting the impact we’ve made in the Coastal Bend and beyond,” Frazier said. “Among that impact is the Frazier Family Foundation, a nonprofit that helps support scholarships for TAMU-CC students and provides enrichment opportunities for prospective Island University students. I want to show the graduates what’s possible with a degree from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.”

Frazier said his message will also center on themes related to grit, conquering fears, the value of hard work, and taking ownership over one’s life.

“I believe achieving success comes down to consistency born from the self-discipline to show up and work diligently, take risks and have the grit to overcome the challenges that we are faced with daily,” Frazier said. “The path to success is paved in failure.”

Among the graduates are seven students who have been selected by the university for their individual achievements. These Outstanding Islander Graduates are:

• Katherine Colburn ’24 – College of Education and Human Development
• Odessey Ramos ’24 – College of Engineering and Computer Science
• Ayleen Chen ’24 – College of Science
• Linell Abrego ’24 – College of Liberal Arts
• Agnes Onyera ’24 – College of Nursing and Health Sciences
• Julius Gonzalez ’24 – School of Arts, Media, & Communication

The ceremonies are free and open to the public and does not require tickets upon entrance. Seating for guests is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and arena doors will open one hour prior to the ceremonies.
