Harte Research Institute to Screen H-E-B Films at TAMU-CC Performing Arts Center
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi welcomes the campus community and the public to a showing of H-E-B’s Our Texas, Our Future film series at the TAMU-CC Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Doors open at 5 p.m. and films begin at 5:30 p.m. The showing is free, and no tickets are necessary to attend.
Our Texas, Our Future is H-E-B’s commitment to preserving Texas’ natural resources related to how the store sources its products, the management of food waste and recycling efforts, and investments in renewable energy.
“I’m really excited that we’re able to bring these important and entertaining films to students and our community in partnership with our friends at the Performing Arts Center,” said Dr. Greg Stunz, HRI Senior Executive Director. “H-E-B, along with Fin and Fur Films, have done a beautiful job of showcasing Texas and our wildlife through film, and I am grateful for their commitment to making a positive difference for our state!”
The five-part docuseries educates audiences and celebrates Texas wildlife and landscapes, from the mountains of Big Bend to the Gulf of Mexico. Created in partnership with Fin and Fur Films, and with narration by Shane Smith and original music by native Texans Shane Smith and the Saints, these films feature some of Texas’ most iconic animals including ocelots, black bears, redfish, and bats. The films also celebrate Texas State Parks’ 100th anniversary.
One of the films, “Redfish Revival,” showcases the history and recovery of redfish on the Texas coast. HRI researchers assisted in the film’s production and features CCA National President, and Center for Sportfish Science and Conservation Advisory Board member, Pat Murray. H-E-B is a new supporter of HRI after having made a generous donation to the Sink Your ShucksTM Oyster Recycling Program and the TAM-CC Foundation.
During the film screening, attendees can visit tables set up in the lobby to learn more about HRI’s research and special programs, including the Sink Your ShucksTM Oyster Recycling Program, Bringing Baffin BackTM, the Oyster Resource and Recovery Center, and the Center for Sportfish Science and Conservation.
“The PAC is thrilled to partner with the Harte Research Institute to show the film series Our Texas, Our Future,” said Jim Moore, Director of the TAMU-CC Performing Arts Center. “Our Texas, Our Future continues our relationship with HRI, which started with their support of The Living Coast by Montopolis and continued last year with the showing of the film Deep in the Heart. We know the audience will enjoy experiencing Our Texas, Our Future on our state-of-the-art video wall which is unparalleled for its clarity and color.”
