Feb. 13-19: Celebrate Islander Pride and Tradition at Homecoming 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Islanders of all ages will join together in celebration of Islander pride during Texas A&M University-Corpus Christ’s Homecoming 2022. The theme for Homecoming 2022 is “Islander Forever, From Sunrise to Sunset.” Beginning Sunday, Feb. 13, until Saturday, Feb. 19, Islander students, faculty, staff, and alumni, plus the Coastal Bend community, are invited to join the festivities, which includes athletic events, a city-wide Bluesday Tuesday proclamation, alumni appreciation, and much more! 

“Homecoming is one of our favorite times on the island for our students, faculty, staff and alumni,” Russell Wagner, Executive Director of Alumni Engagement, said. “It’s the perfect time for all those in the community to join with us, celebrate the University, and show that Islander pride!” 

ADDITIONAL EVENTS:

Sunday, Feb. 13

  • Islander Clean – All of the Islander community will join the Islander Student Volunteer Connection to beautify Ward Island. The spring cleaning will begin at 9 a.m. and ends at noon.

Monday, Feb. 14

  • Paint the Island Blue – Islanders will give campus a blue and green makeover just in time for Homecoming. Activities including painting giant I’s, office decorating, and other campus decorating events.

Tuesday, Feb. 15

  • City-Wide Bluesday Tuesday – Everyone in the Coastal Bend is invited to wear the color blue on Tuesday, Feb. 15 for a city-wide proclamation of Bluesday Tuesday. The proclamation will be read at 11:30 a.m. in Corpus Christi council chambers. Share photos of your Islander spirit on social media by using #BluesdayTuesday and #TAMUCC for a chance to win prizes sponsored by our friends at Gulf Coast Federal Credit Union.
Student vs. Faculty/Staff Basketball Game – The always-entertaining students vs. faculty/staff basketball game will take place at the Dugan Wellness Center at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 16

  • Anchors Aweigh – The Islander Alumni Association invites the campus community to learn more about TAMU-CC’s oldest tradition, the painting of the anchor. The event takes place from 3-6 p.m. in Anchor Plaza, near the University Center.
  • Islanderino – Students can test their luck during Islanderino, sponsored by Campus Activities Board. The event runs 9 p.m. to midnight and is a casino-inspired night that invites students to wear their best Hollywood attire. 

Thursday, Feb. 17

  • Get Your Spirit On! – In support of Islanders Basketball, Islander Housing will host a vehicle-decorating event for students from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in front of the clubhouse at Miramar (main campus).
  • Islanders Double-Header vs. Southeastern Louisiana – The Islanders Men’s and Women’s basketball team will play against Southeastern Louisiana University at the American Bank Center. Women’s tip-off is at 5 p.m. followed by the men’s tip-off at 7:30 p.m. Students are admitted free with a current SandDollar$ ID.

Friday, Feb. 18

  • Friday Fiesta – Friday Fiesta will be held in the Dugan Gym from 3-6 p.m. Students will be treated to fun games including cup stacking, giant chess, balloon darts, and more!
  • Lighting of the “I” – The beloved tradition returns this year at 6:30 p.m. on the East Lawn.
  • Islanders Homecoming Honors Banquet – This event is an evening of celebration, reminiscing, and memories. The Islander Homecoming Honors Banquet will take place in the University Center Anchor Ballrooms beginning at 6 p.m. and will recognize the achievements of four individuals as well as two Islander Athletic Hall of Honor inductees. Saturday, Feb. 19 

  • Back to School: Brunch Tours – The Islander Alumni Association invites all alumni to a behind-the-scenes campus tour. The Mary and Jeff Bell Library will host breakfast, complete with a full mimosa bar starting at 8 a.m., with the first tour starting at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast service will run until 11:30 a.m. Purchase tickets here.
  • Reunion Luncheon – Islander alumni from the graduating classes of 2012, 1997, and any Tarpon from the classes 1948-1973 are invited to enjoy a free luncheon held at Elizabeth’s in the South Texas Art Museum starting at 11:30 a.m.
  • Islanders Women’s Basketball vs. Northwestern State – The Islanders Women’s Basketball team will face off against Northwestern State with a tip-off time of 1 p.m. Students are admitted free with a current SandDollar$ ID. For ticket information, go to com or call 361.825.BALL.
  • Islander Block Party – The official Homecoming Block Party will take place at the American Bank Center parking lot between 3-5 p.m. The public is welcome to join the Islander faithful as we cheer our teams on to victory. This free event, sponsored by Whataburger, is family-friendly and will include games, inflatables, a petting zoo, live music, and more!
  • Islanders Men’s Basketball vs. Northwestern State – Head inside the American Bank Center to cheer on our Islanders Men’s Basketball team as they take on the Northwestern State Demons starting at 5 p.m. Tickets are free for students with a current SandDollar$ ID.
