Celebrate a Cowboy Christmas with Michael Martin Murphey at Island University
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Get ready to enjoy Western yuletide tunes at Michael Martin Murphey’s Cowboy Christmas 25th Anniversary. The festive performance will be held at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. Reserved seat ticket prices range from $25 to $35, and Islander student tickets are $7 with valid SandDollar$ ID.
“The PAC always looks forward to this time of year when we know we’ll host what has become a great tradition for so many South Texas residents – the Michael Martin Murphey Cowboy Christmas. For many in the audience, this performance is really the start of the holiday season,” said Jim Moore, PAC director.
Since 2005, Murphey’s holiday show has been a staple at the Island University. His music evokes the unique sensations of Christmas in Texas and draws crowds from the community and Winter Texans alike.
In addition to the popular Christmas classics that Murphey and the Rio Grande Band will perform, he will also incorporate songs from his newly acclaimed release, “Austinology: Alleys of Austin,” a project that pays tribute to the early years of the seminal Austin music scene.
Murphey, a guitarist, singer and songwriter, is an accomplished musician who began his career in Dallas in the 1960s. His music blends country, folk and rock music into a unique musical style all his own. Widely respected in the pop and country western music scenes, Murphey’s story-telling song, “Wildfire,” reached No. 1 on the Radio & Records Chart and Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart. Murphey came up with the innovative concert concept, “Cowboy Christmas,” in 1987 and has since become a trademarked touring show.
