New PAC Director Brings New Ambitions to Bravo! Series
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Since 2005, the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has hosted a vast and eclectic group of performers as part of the Furgason Bravo! Series. Though this Series is familiar to many, new PAC director Jim Moore is boosting the Bravo! Series to even greater heights.
This year’s Bravo! Series boasts the most diverse line-up in its history with an expanded roster of five performances. The 2018-2019 Bravo! Series features the following acts: Russian Renaissance, Michael Martin Murphy’s Cowboy Christmas, the Westminster Choir, the Glenn Miller Orchestra’s Valentine’s Concert, and the PEN Trio. Tickets go on sale for all performances at 9 a.m., Monday, Sept. 10.
When choosing artists for the new line-up, Moore wanted to acknowledge the history of the series, while also including rising stars.
“Michael Martin Murphy and Glenn Miller give us some continuity from year’s past, but at the same time, I wanted to offer performances that were unique and different. The Westminster Choir, for example, is renowned in the choral world, but they do not come to the South Texas that often.”
Russian Renaissance will kick off the series on Wednesday, Oct. 10. This chamber music playing quartet is a nationally acclaimed group that constantly redefines what it means to play traditional Russian music. Hear their wide assortment of music including jazz standards, tangos, and traditional classical music. Though they’ve made it as far as Michigan and New York, this is the first time they’ve ventured as far south in the United States as Corpus Christi.
On Sunday, Dec. 2, Michael Martin Murphy will return to the PAC for his annual performance of the Cowboy Christmas concert. Get in the holiday spirit with country Christmas classics, while celebrating the 25th-anniversary edition of this performance!
To ring in the New Year, the Westminster Choir will make their debut performance at the Island University on Saturday, Jan. 12. Led by conductor Joe Miller, this long-standing choir continually sets the bar for choral performances.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra will return for their annual Valentine’s Concert on Saturday, Feb. 16. Lovebirds can treat their sweethearts to a romantic evening of swinging and sultry jazz.
Finally, the PEN Trio will close out the Bravo! Series on Friday, March 1. Specializing in formal occasions, the PEN Trio brings their esteemed chamber music to the Island University for the first time this spring.
Moore’s lofty ambitions for the Bravo! Series are just beginning, as he wishes to continue expanding all PAC performances to encompass more genres and styles. That wouldn’t be possible without the enthusiasm of the campus, which Moore holds dear.
“The University has passion and commitment to the arts and the potential for the PAC to become a destination location is unlimited,” said Moore. “The quality of what you see and hear at the PAC is already top-notch, and I look forward to welcoming the community to our grand stage.”
Concert-goers receive a 15 percent discount on the purchase of three or more Bravo! Series performances together. General admission ticket prices vary for each performance. Students with a valid SandDollar$ ID may attend each show for $7.
