Celebrate Islander Pride and Tradition at Homecoming 2018
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Generations of Islanders are ready to celebrate Islander spirit during Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s 2018 Homecoming week, taking place Sunday, Feb. 4, through Saturday, Feb. 10. Faculty, staff
This year’s homecoming theme is “Pride & Tradition.” Events include games, philanthropic events, alumni recognition and other fun activities. A few festive highlights include Lighting of the “I,” the Homecoming Block Party and cheering for our Islanders basketball teams. The Homecoming Court will be announced at the men’s basketball game, and Islander students are encouraged to vote here until Thursday, Feb. 8, at 5 p.m.
The Island University will be holding several events each day, including:
Sunday, Feb. 4
- Islander Clean – The campus community, alumni and
general public are invited to join the Islander Student Volunteer Connection at 8:30 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center parking lot to “spring clean” Ward Island. Free breakfast is available while supplies last.
Monday, Feb. 5
- Homecoming
Tip Off – The Island University will officially kick off this year’s Homecoming festivities, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the East Lawn, with a variety of activities. There will be prizes and food while supplies last. - Student vs. Staff/Faculty Basketball Game – Students will face off against faculty and staff on the basketball court in the Dugan Gym at 7 p.m. During halftime, the Homecoming Court will be announced and the Spirit Team will perform. Players can sign up here. This event is free and open to the community.
Tuesday, Feb. 6
- Anchors Aweigh – Students are invited to join the Islander Alumni Association, in Anchor Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., to learn more about the anchor tradition, which dates back to 1947. Anchor Plaza is located between the University Center and the Center for Sciences. Snack and drinks will be provided and students can win awesome giveaways.
Wednesday, Feb. 7
- Faculty & Staff Legacy Lunch – Faculty and staff, who are also Islander alumni, can enjoy a free luncheon held at the University Center, Anchor Ballroom, from noon to 1 p.m. In addition to the chance to mix and mingle with the many Islander alumni who work full-time at the Island University, attendees will hear from Sara Helmy ’11, Young Alumnus Honoree for 2016.RSVP here.
- Women’s Basketball Game vs. Sam Houston – The Islanders Women’s Basketball team will play Sam Houston State University at 7 p.m. in the Dugan Gym. Students are admitted free with current SandDollar$ ID. Ticket info can be found here.
Islanderino – Islander students are invited to try their luck during Campus Activities Board’s annual Islanderino: Neon 90’s Edition in the University Center’s Anchor Ballroom, starting at 9 p.m. Students can win raffle tickets and compete in the costume contest.
Thursday, Feb. 8
- Multicultural Greek Council Showcase – Join the Multicultural Greek Council at the University Center, Anchor Ballroom, at 6 p.m. for the annual Homecoming Showcase, featuring fraternities and sororities doing traditional stepping, strolling and saluting. This event is free and open to the community.
Friday, Feb. 9
- Friday Fiesta – Join fellow Islander students to celebrate life on the Island through games, activities and free food in the Dugan Gym from 3:30-6:30 p.m.
- Alumni Annual Meeting & Cocktail Reception – All Islander alumni are invited to celebrate Homecoming Week by attending the Islander Alumni Association’s Annual Meeting in the University Center, Lonestar Ballroom, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be followed by a cocktail reception.
- Lighting of the “I” & “Bond” Fires – Everyone is invited to show their Islander spirit during the Lighting of the “I” at 6:30 p.m. in the Anchor Plaza, followed by the student “Bond” Fires on the East Lawn at 7 p.m.
- Alumni Honors Banquet – Celebrate with the Islander Alumni Association in honoring our Distinguished Alumni and Islander Athletic Hall of Honor inductees in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom, at 6 p.m. Tickets include a three-course meal and can be purchased here.
Saturday, Feb. 10
- Alumni Breakfast and Campus Tours – Alumni are invited to take an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of campus, including state-of-the-art labs and a close-up look at the University’s unmanned aerial vehicles. Tours begin at 8 a.m. at the University Center, Anchor Ballroom, with the last tour departing at 9:45 a.m. The tour ends with a breakfast buffet and full mimosa bar. - Women’s Basketball Game
vs . University of New Orleans – The Islanders Women’s Basketball team will play against the University of New Orleans at 2 p.m. in the American Bank Center. Students are admitted free with current SandDollar$ ID and general tickets can be purchased here. American Bank Center bag policy can be found here. - Homecoming Block Party – The family-friendly Official Homecoming Block Party will take place at the American Bank Center parking lot at 4 p.m. Get in the Islander spirit and enjoy food trucks, inflatables, petting zoo, live music featuring the Jake Ward band and more! This event is free and open to the community.
- Alumni & Friends Tailgate Party – Alumni are invited to join their Islander Alumni Association for a family-friendly Pre-Game Party at 4 p.m. in the American Center Parking Lot. There will be food, drinks, giveaways
and activities for kids.
