Faculty Hearing Committee/Advisory Committee Pool

Purpose or Function:  The members of the Faculty Hearing Committee/Advisory Committee Pool will be subject to appointment by the Provost or President to hearing and/or advisory committees referenced in university procedure 12.01.C0.05, Faculty Dismissals, Administrative Leave, Non-reappointments, and Terminal Appointments. Members of the pool may also be appointed by the Provost to serve on ad hoc university investigation committees to review faculty grievances and academic freedom disputes covered by university procedures 32.01.01.C0.01, Complaint and Appeal Process for Faculty Members and 12.01.99.C0.02, Academic Freedom.

Membership: Faculty members who have been successfully tenured, hold the rank of associate professor or higher, and do not have administrative appointments of more than 49% are eligible for the Faculty Hearing Committee/Advisory Committee Pool.  The Faculty Advisory Council will randomly select 24 eligible faculty members to serve as this pool. The Provost may supplement this pool to address considerations of conflict of interest and workload. Members serve staggered three-year terms in the pool. Chair:  Hearing committees and advisory committees appointed from the membership of this pool will select their own chairs. The chairs of ad hoc investigation committees will be selected by the Provost.
