Frequently Asked Questions
In rare circumstances an account’s budget may need to be increased. Requesting an increase of budget in an account should be made during the budget process but emergencies do arise and the Fiscal Request is the way to request additional budget in an account. These requests can be one-time or ongoing. For self-supporting accounts you may be requesting the use of fund balance. In the case of allocated accounts (1xxxxx, 28xxxxx, 207xxx) you may be requesting additional funds from the university. The Fiscal Request Form can be found in the “Forms’ section of the budget website. Instructions can be found on the first tab.
The Legislative Appropriations Request, or LAR, is submitted every even year to the Legislative Budget Board. This request includes how the university has utilized its state resources and includes requests the university may have for new state funded buildings or special items.
When processing a personnel business process in Workday for non-wage workers, funds are automatically encumbered on the account to show planned salary payments for those positions. For wage workers there is not the automatic encumbering of funds but a manual encumbrance in FAMIS can be created. The Wage Encumbrance Overview has instructions on how to create these encumbrances and can be found under “Useful Resources” on the budget webpage.
If you do not have access to create a wage encumbrance an email should be sent to FAMIS security requesting access for screen 754.
