From Coding Robots to Exploring the Texas State Aquarium, Campers Reflect on a Week Filled with Discovery, Teamwork, and Fun

Students left this year’s STEM Camp with more than just new technical skills — they also built friendships, explored the Coastal Bend, and discovered what makes science and engineering exciting. 

Luke Lucio, an incoming eighth-grade student at Rising Scholars Academy, said one of his favorite parts of the week was visiting the Texas State Aquarium, where he learned interesting facts about marine life. He also appreciated having time to unwind in the pool and gym at the end of each day. 

“I think the coolest thing was learning how to code a robot to follow a line and avoid obstacles just by using different blocks of code,” Luke said. “It was just really, really cool.” 

When asked why other students should attend the camp, Luke highlighted the engaging field trips, welcoming campus environment, and supportive staff. He gave special recognition to volunteer Jacob, who made campers feel welcome by spending time with them during lunch and creating a fun, encouraging atmosphere throughout the week. 

Victoria Bayi, also an incoming eighth-grade student at Rising Scholars Academy, said her favorite moments were the icebreaker activities that helped campers get to know one another. 

“The people are very nice,” Victoria said. “The activities are fun, and you get to know a lot of new people.” 

She also enjoyed the camp’s educational field trips, especially visits to the USS Lexington Museum and the Texas State Aquarium, where campers explored history and learned about marine life. Along with the hands-on learning, Victoria said campers appreciated the food and comfortable campus experience, making the week both enjoyable and memorable. 

From robotics and coding to field trips and new friendships, STEM Camp gave students opportunities to learn, collaborate, and create lasting memories while exploring the many possibilities within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
