Qiming Guo: 2025 Outstanding Doctoral Student

Qiming Guo ’27, a Texas A&M- Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) Ph.D. Computer Science student, was awarded the 2025 Outstanding Doctoral Student Award by the Office of Student Research and Innovation. This award recognized Guo for his exceptional achievements as a doctoral student and the meaningful impact he has made in his field and community. His accomplishments serve as an inspiration to others, demonstrating what is possible through hard work, innovation, and leadership. 

Guo’s research focuses on designing and applying artificial intelligence to benefit areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and science. His most significant contribution centers on developing AI models that monitor wastewater pipelines to improve maintenance efficiency and effectiveness. These systems help prevent environmental harm, reduce financial strain on communities, and minimize the need for labor-intensive manual work.  

“My goal is to develop sustainable technologies that protect both the environment and the well-being of populations globally,” said Guo.  

In addition to his work on infrastructure, Guo is also passionate about using AI to help individuals struggling with mental health. He has developed a software called “SouLLMate”, which provides free mental health evaluations and helps users access the support they need.  

Guo credits his success at TAMU-CC to the guidance of his advisor and the support of the university.  

“Dr. Wenlu Wang, my advisor, has been particularly influential. Her deep understanding of AI and its real-world applications has been crucial for my projects,” said Guo. “Our department, college, and the Office of Research and Innovation have also provided me with substantial support that have significantly contributed to my development as a researcher.”  

Beyond academics, Guo credits the unique setting of TAMU-CC with nurturing his development.   

“The balance between academic rigor and leisure, facilitated by the serene backdrop of Corpus Christi Bay, enhances our daily experiences,” said Guo. “The opportunity to start each day with a view of the sunrise over the bay, enriches my life here immeasurably.”
