Inspiring Future Engineers in the Coastal Bend
On November 7, 2025, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s (TAMU-CC) College of Engineering and Computer Science partnered with Hanson Professional Services to host the first Shadow Hanson event on campus. This event invited junior high and high school students to TAMU-CC for a day filled with STEM activities led by Hanson engineers.
With more than 70 students in attendance from four Coastal Bend schools, the event gave participants opportunities to meet and learn from current engineering professionals. During the four-hour event, students rotated through activities focused on different engineering specialties, including civil, structural, transportation, and water resources.
Students were challenged to build towers, engineer the perfect street, and develop solutions to purify polluted water. Each activity was led by a professional with expertise in that area, giving students the opportunity to see how real engineers identify problems and create solutions.
Hanson Professional Services and TAMU-CC share a common goal when it comes to events like this one — igniting a passion for STEM in young students. This common goal makes this a powerful partnership that can change the whole trajectory of students’ lives.
“Our goal is to show that engineering is accessible to all walks of life,” said Marcos Ybarra, Associate Roadway Discipline Manager at Hanson’s Corpus Christi firm. “Some of our current employees attended Shadow Hanson events as students, proving that working with students from a young age can have an impact.”
Hanson Profession Services is dedicated to instilling a love of engineering and technology in young students not only through Shadow Hanson at TAMU-CC, but also through a variety of educational programs across the country. TAMU-CC is proud to be added to the list of institutions that Hanson partners with to bring fun, educational events to local students.
