Dr. Ruby Mehrubeoglu, Certified ABET Program Evaluator

Dr. Ruby Mehrubeoglu, professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christ (TAMU-CC), has been certified as a program evaluator (PEV) for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for two programs, namely, Electrical and Electronics Engineering programs, and Optical Engineering programs. As a program evaluator, Mehrubeoglu is part of a team that reviews college and university programs to ensure they meet ABET’s quality criteria for engineering program accreditation.

Receiving ABET accreditation signifies that a program has undergone a rigorous peer-review process and meets global standards for academic and professional readiness. This accreditation demonstrates the quality of education a program provides to students, as well as its commitment to continuous improvement.

ABET consists of 34 professional and technical societies representing more than 1.5 million members. The board accredits over 4,700 programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology across 42 countries.

“Each year, more than 200,000 students graduate from ABET accredited programs, ensuring they are prepared for today’s global workforce,” according to Dr. Michael K.J. Milligan, ABET Chief Executive Officer.

As a program evaluator, Mehrubeoglu plays a key role in the ABET review process. She evaluates programs by examining course materials, student transcripts, academic facilities, and by interviewing faculty, staff, students, alumni, and advisory board members.

Selection as an ABET evaluator is a highly competitive process that requires technical expertise, professional skills, leadership, and strong communication skills. Mehrubeoglu completed online training, in-person evaluation simulations, and society-specific training to earn her spot as a program evaluator for two different engineering programs, which is relatively rare.

Mehrubeoglu’s achievement reflects the academic excellence of the TAMU-CC Department of Engineering. The University is proud to have educators like her that are making waves in the field not only in Corpus Christi, but also on a global scale.
