A Special Message from Dean David T. Ma

Dean Ma

Welcome to a new academic year at the College of Engineering and Computer Science!

I am proud to share several milestones that underscore our college’s growth and excellence.

All of our engineering programs have earned a full six-year ABET accreditation, including our newest degrees in Civil Engineering and Industrial Engineering—a testament to the quality and rigor of our curriculum. The Computer Science Department is expanding its offerings with forward-looking programs in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, ensuring our students stay at the forefront of these rapidly evolving fields.

Our proposed Ph.D. in Engineering program has received approval from the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, pending final confirmation by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. We anticipate welcoming our first doctoral cohort in 2027, marking a new era of advanced research and innovation.

In collaboration with Del Mar College, we are also launching an Architecture program, offering both a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a professional Bachelor of Architecture. This partnership broadens opportunities for interdisciplinary design education and strengthens our service to the communities we call home.

Our commitment to preparing industry-ready graduates drives us to refine our curriculum continually to meet the evolving demands of the workforce. Despite national uncertainties in federal research funding, our faculty secured a record level of external research grants, demonstrating their dedication and impact.

As we begin this academic year, I am inspired by the achievements of our students, faculty, and staff. Together, we are shaping a future defined by innovation, resilience, and excellence.
