Discovery Day: Learning About College Starts Here

🧭 Interest Mapping Session

Students will participate in hands-on activities designed to help them identify their interests, strengths, and passions. This session encourages students to start connecting who they are today with future academic and career possibilities.

🗺️ Campus Tour

Students will explore the Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi campus through a guided tour that introduces key campus spaces and helps students feel comfortable and confident in a college environment.

🎓 Student Life, Traditions & Student Panel

Students will learn about college traditions, campus involvement, and student life while hearing directly from current Islander students. This session gives participants an authentic look at what it’s like to be a college student and helps them see themselves belonging on campus.

📘 College Readiness Session

Students will be introduced to the concept of college readiness, including why education matters, how preparation starts early, and what steps students can take now to set themselves up for future success.

Discovery Day is part of Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi’s commitment to early college awareness and access. This experience helps students:

• Build familiarity with a college campus

• Explore interests and future possibilities

• Understand the importance of preparation and planning

• Develop confidence and a sense of belonging in higher education spaces

If you have already confirmed that your campus will attend Discovery Day (up to 50 students per school), you will be contacted with arrival, drop-off, and event details as the event date approaches. Schools may begin coordinating transportation to campus once participation is confirmed.

All participating students must have a completed permission slip and waiver prior to arrival. Permission slips and waivers should be collected by the school’s designated contact person in advance and submitted to tour@tamucc.edu prior to the event. Students without a completed waiver on file will not be permitted to participate.

Chaperone Requirements and Safety Responsibilities

Participating school districts are responsible for providing appropriate supervision for their students while on campus. One (1) chaperone is required for every ten (10) students, with a maximum of 50 students per school.

By participating in Discovery Day, each school district attests that the chaperones and staff accompanying students are qualified to work with children and meet their district’s requirements for student supervision. This includes compliance with applicable training, background checks, and child safety procedures required by the district.

School chaperones remain responsible for the supervision and care of their students throughout the duration of the event.
