CRECEMOS

CRECEMOS MISSION STATEMENT

To improve the communities’ health through medical research. Having an informed community is the cornerstone of having a strong community. By offering evidence based health and wellness information one is empowered to make strong decisions about themselves.

ABOUT CRECEMOS

Dr. Xavier Gonzales, in partnership with Ben F. McDonald Library, facilitates a monthly Health and Nutrition series known as Community Resources: Easing Concerns by Educating on Matters oScience (CRECEMOS). Dr. Gonzales is with the Department of Life Science in the College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. Gonzales came up with the idea for CRECEMOS when he was prepping for his class lectures at the McDonald Public Library. After an interested and curious community member came up to Gonzales, he realized he had a wealth of knowledge to share. Dr. Gonzales' background includes immunology, microbiology, endocrinology, and public health. His publications have covered topics on brains and bacteria, genes and environmental toxins, cancer treatments and the impact of psychological stress on diseases. The monthly talks look at health issues from the point of view of a research scientist. It is delivered to a general audience with a non-science background. The program is free and open to the public. No registration is required. To receive future announcements, follow Ben F. McDonald Public Library Facebook page or check out the Corpus Christi Public Libraries website.
