Engineering and Computing Sciences Summer Programs

Participants in grades 6-12 will be introduced to the programs offered by the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. This year we will be offering a one-week coding camp for middle school students and two programs for high school students: a two-day computer science & GIS camp and a five-day engineering camp.

Middle School Coding Summer Program

The middle school coding camp will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to make animations and games using the Scratch software. The program is open to students going into the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade during the 2022-2023 school year. Priority will be given to students who reside within the state of Texas.

To participate in the program, students will need to have access to a computer, laptop, or tablet which is enabled with speakers, camera, and a microphone and which is connected to the internet.

  • Dates: TBD
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

All presentations and activities will take place virtually. Students will do all activities from home using their computer/laptop/tablet to communicate with program Staff. Days prior to the start of the program, accepted participants will receive an e-mail with instructions and the link to connect to the Virtual Summer Program.

  • There are a maximum of 25 slots
  • The application fee is $10
  • Students will be notified of acceptance/non acceptance one-week prior to camp start date.
  • There are no additional fees for the camp, the remaining costs are covered by the program’s Sponsor, The School of Engineering and Computing Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
  • Scholarships are available for families that cannot pay the $10 application fee

High School Engineering Summer Program

The high school engineering summer program will introduce students to the Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs through hands-on activities and presentations.

To participate in the program, students will need to have access to a computer or laptop which is enabled with speakers, a camera, a microphone, a USB port, and Windows software; students will also need to have a Google e-mail account. This program is open to students going into the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during the 2022-2023 school year. Priority will be given to students who reside within the state of Texas.

This one-week program will be offered twice this summer.

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Days prior to the start of the program, accepted participants will receive a package by mail, a kit that will include all the materials necessary to do the activities, as well as an e-mail with instructions and the link to connect to the Virtual Summer Program.

  • There are a maximum of 25 slots each week
  • Application fee is $10.

The high school Computer Science and Geographic Information Science program will introduce students to these two fields through hands-on activities and presentations. This program is open to students going into 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade during the 2022-2023 school year.
