It All Adds Up
Those who know Dr. Awni Zebda say he has always shown genuine concern for the well-being of his students. His life calling is to help younger generations find their path to success. Former students, who are professors, chief financial officers, bank presidents and public accountants, credit him for improving their lives. Since 1980, the professor in the Department of Accounting and Business Law has taught at the University of Alabama, Louisiana Tech University and the University of Kansas before joining the Island University faculty in 1994. Zebda, who appreciates the collegiality within the University and the College of Business, has developed and taught several undergraduate and graduate courses. He published many papers in different journals and publications.  He has served on the Faculty Senate and numerous university and college councils. He also served as an associate editor and an editorial board member for several national business and accounting journals. Over the years, he has received such honors as the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award given by the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Alumni Association, the Accounting Society Outstanding Professor Award, and the College of Business Nominee for the Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activity Award. In 2009, Zebda received the designation of Regents Professor from The Texas A&M System Board of Regents for his contributions and was recognized as the Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was also nominated for the Piper Professor Award, which honors 15 professors in Texas colleges and universities for outstanding achievement in the teaching profession. Zebda earned his undergraduate degree from Ain Shams University in Egypt and his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
