University Faculty Member Chosen as Representative for International Conference Peer Review Panel

September 18, 2013

Balkin

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Richard Balkin, Associate Professor for the Department of Counseling & Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has been selected to be a representative on the British Association for Counseling & Psychotherapy (BACP) conference review panel.

Balkin, has been involved for many years with the American Counseling Association (ACA), serving most recently as the Editor of the Journal of Counseling and Development, and is excited about this new opportunity.

“Out of the 50,000 members I am honored to represent the American Counseling Association on this international panel,” said Balkin.

As part of a six-person review panel Dr. Balkin will help to review article submissions, make recommendations for abstract improvement, and plan the conference’s academic program. This will be Dr. Balkin’s first year with the BACP and working with colleagues on an international level.

“What I am most excited about is to see what kinds of research are being conducted in the Counseling and Psychology fields on the international level, something I wouldn’t normally get exposure to,” said Balkin.

This year long appointment will certainly be a benefit because the BACP is the largest professional body representing counseling and psychotherapy in the U.K. and participates in the development of these fields on an international level. Not only is the BACP a membership organization, but it is also a registered charity that sets practice standards and provides information to the general public, counselors, and their clients.
