The Island University Signs Agreement with United States Army Corps of Engineers to Enhance Opportunities for Minority Students

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi signed a cooperation agreement today (Friday, Aug. 23) with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Galveston District, committing the two organizations to work together to enhance opportunities for minority students throughout the Corps. 

This partnership will assist the USACE in recruiting a workforce comprised of a diverse pool of high-performing Island University students, with valuable talents and strengths that are critical to providing excellent services to all Corps customers, especially soldiers and their families.  The agreement outlines several goals that both organizations hope to accomplish over the next five years including prepare engineering students for responsible positions in environmental engineering and civil programs.

“With this agreement, the University will be able to provide even greater opportunities for our engineering students,” said Dr. Frank Pezold, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. “Our students will gain access to more internships, career development programs, and desirable positions through the United States Army Corps of Engineers after graduation.”

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approximately 37,000 dedicated civilians and soldiers delivering engineering services to customers in more than 130 countries worldwide. They work to deliver vital public and military engineering services, partner in peace and war to strengthen our nation’s security, and energize the economy and reduce risks from disasters.
