University President Flavius Killebrew Serves as Keynote Speaker for American GI Forum National Conference

July 31, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Flavius Killebrew, President and CEO of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, served as a keynote speaker for the 65th annual National American GI Forum (AGIF) Conference this weekend, July 24-27, in Denver, Colo.
The annual event provided AGIF membership delegates and their families throughout the United States an opportunity to come together and discuss important contemporary issues facing veterans and the Hispanic community.  This year’s theme was “Pa’ Lante: The Evolution and Future of Hispanic Veterans.”

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza was dedicated at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on June 28, 1996.  Following his death, Garcia’s official papers were donated to the University and are a centerpiece of the Special Collections and Archives Department of the Mary and Jeff Bell Library.

The AGIF, founded in 1948 by Dr. Hector P. Garcia as a veterans’ family organization, was recognized in 1998 by the United States Congress with a Federal Charter for its 50-year history of advocacy work, service, and accomplishments on behalf of veterans and their families, particularly in the Hispanic community.
