University Faculty Member Chosen as Editor of a National Counseling Journal

Richard Balkin

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Richard Balkin, Associate Professor for the Department of Counseling & Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi, has been selected as Editor of the Journal of Counseling and Development- the primary journal for the American Counseling Association (ACA).

Dr. Balkin has been involved with ACA for several years, including as an active member of the ACA Research Committee, co-facilitator of the ACA Jewish Interest Network, and member of ACA/ACES Task Force for Center for Counseling Research.  Balkin says his new position as Editor will continue to further his involvement with the organization.

Balkin is the second University faculty member appointed to a high-ranking position in the ACA.  Earlier this year, Dr. Robert Smith, Professor and Chair of the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, was elected to serve as the 63rd President of the Association.

Balkin is currently the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair at A&M- Corpus Christi. He stays actively involved on campus and in the community through his work and research and says he particularly enjoys studying instrument development and outcome research of the adolescent population.

Balkin will serve in his new position for three years.  The ACA is the world’s largest private, not-for-profit organization for professional counselors with over 50,000 members.
