CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas‒ Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has been recognized by the Peace Corps as one of the top 10 volunteer-producing Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in the nation for 2013.

Rankings are calculated based on fiscal year 2012 data as of Sept. 30, 2012, as self-reported by Peace Corps volunteers. The Peace Corps ranks the top volunteer producing HSIs annually.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi offers a Peace Corps Master’s International (MI) Program in Fisheries and Mariculture through the College of Science and Engineering. The joint program between the Peace Corps and the University gives students the opportunity to participate in Peace Corps volunteer service while earning a Master of Science in Fisheries and Mariculture. Once students apply and are accepted to the University, then they can apply to the Peace Corps to participate in the MI program (http://mipc.tamucc.edu/).

Ninety percent of Peace Corps volunteer positions require a bachelor's degree. Americans with backgrounds in agriculture, environment, teaching English as a second language, and other technical or language skills related to Peace Corps assignment areas are encouraged to apply for service one year in advance of their target departure date.

Currently, more than 8,000 volunteers are working with communities in 76 host countries on projects related to agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health, and youth development.
