CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Dr. Flavius Killebrew, President and CEO of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has been selected as a keynote speaker for the 65th annual National American GI Forum (AGIF) Conference July 24-27 in Denver, Colo.

The annual event allows AGIF membership delegates and their families throughout the United States an opportunity to come together and discuss important contemporary issues facing veterans and the Hispanic community.  This year’s theme will be “Pa’ Lante: The Evolution and Future of Hispanic Veterans.”

“I am proud to share my passion for higher education at the national level with this distinguished group,” said Dr. Killebrew. “There will be opportunities to discuss solutions to the real-life issues currently faced by our veterans and the Hispanic community.”

The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Plaza was dedicated at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on June 28, 1996.  Following his death, Garcia’s official papers were donated to the University and are a centerpiece of the Special Collections and Archives Department of the Mary and Jeff Bell Library.

The AGIF, founded in 1948 by Dr. Hector P. Garcia as a veterans’ family organization, was recognized in 1998 by the United States Congress with a Federal Charter for its 50-year history of advocacy work, service, and accomplishments on behalf of veterans and their families, particularly in the Hispanic community.
