Top Marine Fisheries Expert Speaks at the Island University

January 10, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will present its Distinguished Speaker Series featuring one of the world’s leading marine fisheries experts, Dr. Daniel Pauly, on Friday, Jan. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in the Warren Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts.

Dr. Pauly, Professor with the Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia, will give the seminar titled “Impacts of Fisheries and Global Warming on Marine Ecosystems."

“Texas A&M-Corpus Christi aims to be a leader in marine studies so we provide opportunities throughout the year for our students and faculty to meet and exchange ideas with experts in these areas,” said Dr. Michael Wetz, Assistant Professor of Marine Biology at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Dr. Pauly will discuss how his group has demonstrated significant changes in fish species distributions and catch potential in the world's oceans. Based on their use of global fisheries data and sophisticated climate models, Dr. Pauly believes these changes will continue to grow in the near future due to human-induced climate change.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the College of Science and Engineering Distinguished Speaker Series, go to http://www.sci.tamucc.edu/speakers.html.
