Playwright Submission

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking to commission a playwright to create an original piece in collaboration with our faculty, student performers, and designers. The subject matter of the play will revolve around the historical civil rights figure Dr. Hector P. Garcia who has been influential to both the history and culture of the region. Our search is aimed at, but not limited to an artist who is familiar with the South Texas region.  The commission would offer a flat rate of $8000 (Note: The commissioned artist is responsible for all travel, lodging, and personal expenses while visiting during the dates listed but our faculty and staff will do our best to help organize and find the best quality and highest valued accommodations during these visits.). Workshop dates are to be held between January 28th-30th 2022, and the staged reading(s) dates are to be held between June 13th-17th 2022. A full production in the Fall 2022 will be produced at the University. Requirements for submission are as follows: Updated Resume or CV, a 10-page writing sample, and an artist statement describing how the artist connects with the material. Send submissions and/or questions to stephanie.coello@tamucc.edu. The selection committee will use a blind submission process in review, and submissions will be accepted until position is filled.
