Music Industry

Every recording, concert production, film, and TV show has a team of professionals that make it happen. The Music Industry program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi prepares students to understand and achieve the skills necessary to function and succeed in the rapidly evolving field of music and entertainment industry. 

The two core areas of study are audio technology and entertainment business. You will learn how to make professional-quality music with the same hardware and software found in the music and recording industry. The business courses cover the concepts that go into promotion, marketing, accounting, intellectual property, artist and product management, and publishing and distribution. 

The music and entertainment industry have a wide array of roles for creative professionals. Our program will help you prepare to join their ranks.

BA-Music, Music Industry Emphasis

The BA-Music, Music Industry Emphasis is a desirable degree for those who wish to study music within a traditional framework combined with studies in music business, recording technology, and related fields. The degree is appropriate for students who seek a basic, comprehensive knowledge and skills foundation for work and growth in the music industry.

 In addition to other degree requirements, student will take the following music industry classes:

  • MIND 3311 - Applications of Music Technology 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3312 - Recording Techniques I 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3313 - Recording Techniques II 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3314 - Live Sound Engineering 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3316 - Introduction to MIDI Sound Synthesis and Control 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3320 - Music Business Survey 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3321 - Music Business II 3 hrs.
  • MIND 4398 - Applied Experience 3 hrs.
  • BUSI 3315 - Entrepreneurship, Creativity, & Innovation 3 hrs.
  • BUSI 4320 - New Venture Creation 3 hrs.

And choose one of the following:

  • MIND 3315 - Musical Acoustics 3 hrs.
  • MIND 3322 - Entertainment Law and the Music Industry 3 hrs.

Music Industry Minor

The minor in music industry is designed to provide students with the basic specialized skills required for post-graduate employment opportunities in arts marketing and management, studio technology, and audio recording. Students will have hands-on opportunities to work with up-to-date software packages used in music industry. Finally, students will have a significant opportunity to undertake an independent practical project within a chosen area of the music industry.
