Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
Purpose or Function: The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee works alongside the Vice President of Student Engagement and Success and the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs to advise the President on diversity issues across campus, with a focus on equity in access and success, campus climate, curricular and co-curricular program alignment, learning and development opportunities, and institutional structures and practices. The work of the committee supports campus efforts to become a more equitable, inclusive community where all are welcomed, supported, and able to thrive. The DEI Committee also advises the President on the appropriate equity and accountability goals to which Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi should aspire in creating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive campus community and assess progress toward achieving those goals. The committee will fulfill its charge by:
- Assisting with the routine planning, development, and implementation of campus-wide strategies focused on th equity, diversity, and inclusion goals stated above.
- Identifying programs that can have the greatest positive impacts on campus diversity and inclusion and how resources might best be utilized and coordinated to achieve the campus equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.
- Reviewing data regarding the status of student, faculty, and staff equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts to improve inclusive excellence at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
- Assessing the institution’s equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts in relation to its equity and accountability goals.
Membership: The committee consists of the Chief Diversity Officer, Vice President for Student Engagement and Success and Intercollegiate Athletics, Director of Employee Development and Compliance Services, and Director of Human Resources; one (1) representative each from Enrollment Management, Dean’s Council, Staff Council, Institutional Advancement, Academic Advising, and Student Engagement & Success; one (1) faculty member from each academic college appointed by the college dean; three (3) students appointed by the Student Government Association; and one (1) community member appointed by the President. Appointed faculty/staff members serve two-year renewable terms. Student representatives serve one-year renewable terms.
