Laboratory Requirements

Laboratory Safety incorporates safety principles from a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

  • fire and life safety
  • chemical safety
  • biological safety
  • radiation safety
The hazards encountered in a laboratory touch every field of safety and may be similar, although potentially greater in quantity or severity, to hazards encountered in the average home or workplace.

Environmental, Health & Safety (E,H&S) works with the departments to ensure that safe practices are utilized, and federal and state safety standards and requirements are followed. This is accomplished through conducting laboratory inspections, inspecting chemical fume hoods and other safety equipment, and providing general laboratory safety training.

For specific questions relating to Laboratory or Chemical Safety, contact the E,H&S Department at University extension 5555.
