Lea-Der Chen, Professor and Associate Dean of Engineering and Computing Sciences in the College of Science and Technology at TAMU-CC. Prior to joining TAMU-CC, Chen has been on the faculty at The University of Iowa (UIOWA) since 1982, serving as Department Chair (2005-2010, and 1992-1998) and Director of the National Advanced Driving Simulator at UIOWA. Chen earned his B.S. (National Taiwan University), M.S. (Penn State University) and Ph.D. (Penn State University) degrees in mechanical engineering. At UIOWA, he also served as the Site Director/Director of a National Science Foundation’s Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (2002-2009). Dr. Chen has co-authored or authored more than 150 technical publications, and is active in professional societies at the national and international levels. Dr. Chen’s current research activities include wind turbine drivetrain modeling and simulation, vehicle modeling, simulation and validation, alternative fuels, solar thermal and solar fuel cells.
