Jose Baca Garcia

Assistant Professor
S&E-School Of Engineering & Computing Sciences

He is an assistant professor in the Department of Engineering at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, USA. His research interests include the development and integration of modular robots and modular mechatronic systems into different research fields and cross-cutting applications such as in space, industry, medicine, sports, and education.
Dr. Baca has been working in the modular robotics field for over 10 years and his work has led to multiple publications in leading conferences and journals, and has organized and co-chaired workshops on his field. In 2012, he joined the University of Nebraska at Omaha, CMANTIC Robotics Lab as a postdoctoral fellow to continue his research field on a NASA-funded modular robotic project for planetary exploration, ModRED. In 2014, he received external grants from the NASA Nebraska Space Grant consortium to work on the space technologies and on the development of an educational robotic suite to engage middle and high school students in robotics. In 2015, he was awarded a grant from the Peter Kiewit Institute to continue working on modular robots and improve the mobility and agility of post-stroke patients via assessment and exercise of human movement. In 2017, prior joining TAMU-CC, his NASA EPSCoR proposal got selected for funding.
