A Message from the President: COVID-19 Update for May 5, 2020 (For Students)

Published: May 5, 2020 4:00 PM

Dear Islander Students,

Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate the next phase of this pandemic and plan for a safe return to campus. While we are anxious to see everyone back on the Island, safety remains our top priority.

Summer I classes will be taught remotely, as will most Summer II classes. For some majors, remote learning is not possible for a few required classes. We are looking at ways to safely offer those sessions in Summer II to allow students to continue progressing toward their degrees.

At this time, we plan to offer face-to-face classes in the fall and are working across campus to do so in the safest manner possible. The fall events schedule is also being examined to determine what changes may be required. Additional details will be provided as they become available. As always, we will continue to assess the situation and adjust plans as needed.

While much remains to be determined, one thing remains true. Islanders have always been resilient, innovative, and caring. Throughout this pandemic, Islanders have been leaders serving as a resource and a point of pride throughout the community.

We look forward to the day when all Islanders can be on campus together. Until then, please be safe, and continue to have patience as we work through the details of a return to campus.
