Since its inception in 1993, the Island Waves has stood as an official student publication at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Unlike most universities, A&M-Corpus Christi does not have a journalism department, so it is our job to:
1. Serve as a forum in which students can voice their concerns relevant to the university.
2. Keep students updated on activities and issues concerning the campus community.
3. Help students attain journalistic experience in a professional atmosphere.
Seventeen students are in charge of handling the newspaper students from choosing story ideas to designing the layouts to delivering the paper every Thursday. We also have a staff advisor that offers guidance.
The production of the Island Waves is generated in part from student fees and advertisement sales.
