Introduction
This lesson was developed as a project for, ETEC 5310: Telecommunications in Education, at Texas A & M University Corpus Christi, during the summer of 1999. Children love to travel and learn about new and interesting places! This unit is a great opportunity to focus on this subject! Many resources have been compiled from both the Internet and books to help you guide your students in gathering and using the knowledge.
Content Area and Grade Level
This unit can be adapted for use in grades 3-5, and targets the areas of science, social studies, language arts, math, and technology.

Curriculum Standards
The main objective of this unit is for the students to utilize technology/Internet to research Texas and use this information to create a travel brochure and/or computer presentation. Informational literacy is the main focus of this project.
Resources Needed
Internet connection
Word processing program such as Claris Works or Kid Pix.
For Internet links, see student page.
Students prior knowledge might add interest, however, it is not necessary. Students will need basic technology skills, such as searching the Internet and basic word processing knowledge.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated on the following:Cooperation and participation.
Quality of information gathered from research.
Neatness, completeness, and the quality of the project will be determined by applying a rubric based on Real-World Academic Standards, Standards For The New Millennium, Corpus Christi ISD, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Conclusion
Hopefully your students will find this unit to be an exciting and engaging way to learn about Texas and will gain valuable skills and knowledge.
