Using Fractions Everyday

1. A baseball team won 18 games out of 24. What is the ratio of games won to games played?

2. A mixture of salt and water is 5 parts salt and 65 parts water. What is the ratio of salt to water?

3.. A recipe for banana nut bread calls for 4 cups of flour for every 2 cups of milk. Find the ratio of flour to milk.

4. Bill threw a baseball 215 5/8 feet. John threw the ball 207 3/4 feet. Find the difference between the two throws.

5. Kelly worked 6 3/4 hours on Monday, 7 3/4 hours on Tuesday, 7 14 hours on Wednesday, and 6 12 hours on Thursday. Find the total number of hours she worked.

6. An airplane travels from New York to Miami in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Express this time as a mixed number.

7. Jennifer swam laps in 4 1/8 minutes. Ellen swam the same laps in 3 1/2 minutes. How much faster did Ellen swim the laps?

8. The regular price of a jacket is $45.00. John buys the jacket at a 1/3 off sale. How much is the sale price of the jacket?

9. Rick needs to cover a window that has been broken with boards. The window is 12 feet wide. Each board is 2 1/3 feet. Will 5 boards cover the window space?

10. The Jones family traveled 150 miles on their vacation. They traveled 2/5 of the distance by boat. How far did they travel by boat?
