Students should have the opportunity to focus on the process of writing. Beginning with critical understanding of a concept and ending with specific edits on a completed document. It is to be understood that students will “relapse” into previously corrected writing habits when they are introduced into new concepts as they struggle to master new material. It is the teacher’s job to be flexible and understand that there will be no instant gratification, but that long-term success is the ultimate goal.
