Writing as a Tool for Thinking
The act of writing is not a fixed process where we transcribe information from our brains. It is, rather, a creative process that generates thought. The act of writing is multifaceted and multi-purposed; it can assist in generating ideas, solving problems, identifying issues, constructing questions, reconsidering solutions, etc. When instructing students, teachers / instructors should honor every piece of writing as a starting point for deeper writing. Writing goes beyond the traditional modes; it includes blogging, reflective journaling, note-taking, texting, Facebook updating, etc.
