Underprepared for developing the necessary writing skills to succeed in a college-level writing course. The following skills will be determined by an institutionally mandated placement test. Lack of mastery in one or more of the following skills institutionally defines a student as a basic writer:

  • Lack of mastery of SAE
  • Critical thinking
  • Creative process
  • Grammar/mechanics
