Student Publications
Approved September 5, 2001

1. GENERAL
1.1 The University considers student publications a valuable aid in establishing and maintaining an atmosphere of free and responsible discussion. Student publications are a means of disseminating news, of bringing campus concerns to the attention of the university community, and of formulating opinions on local, national, and international issues.

1.2 Each publication should provide a full opportunity for students to inquire, question and exchange ideas. Content should reflect a diversity of student interests, including topics about which there may be dissent or controversy.

1.3 The University assumes no liability for the content of any student publication and urges student journalists to recognize that with editorial control comes responsibility to follow professional journalism standards.

1.4 Students may publish and distribute publications on campus as long as they do not violate reasonable restrictions as to time and place of distribution and do not disrupt the educational process.

2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 Official Student Publications – publications operated by the authority of the Division of Student Affairs that serve the students, faculty, staff and other constituent groups of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as prime sources of information, as forums for discussion of pertinent issues, and as historical records. A list of official student publications is available in Student Activities.

2.2 Other Student Publications - publications that are organized according to programs and objectives of individual students, students in various academic and administrative departments, or student organizations. These publications are not governed by the student publications committee or subject to the guidelines outlined in the Student Publications Handbook. Examples of other student publications include any publication by a recognized student organization, personal student publications including but not limited to flyers and websites, and publications generated by academic and administrative departments.
