Oversight of Athletic Scholarships
Approved September 24, 2001
Revised March 6, 2002

1. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offers athletic scholarships that recognize athletic ability. Scholarship awards are competitive and selection is based upon athletic ability and compliance with academic standards set by the University and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Scholarships do not have to be repaid.

2. The Athletic Scholarship Committee has oversight responsibility and authority for any and all athletic-related awards given by the University. The committee membership consists of the faculty representatives of the Intercollegiate Athletic Council, and the committee is chaired by the Faculty Athletics Representative. Information on the process and criteria for selecting the Intercollegiate Athletic Council membership may be found in the "University Committees and University Administrative Councils" document, which is accessible through the campus home page.

3. The committee shall have two roles. The first is the development of guidelines and the second is the awarding process. Both of these roles shall be handled by the committee as a whole.

4. The Athletic Scholarship Committee is empowered to review, evaluate, and modify all athletic scholarships that are administered by the Athletic Department. Associated with its scholarship oversight responsibility, the committee is empowered to conduct evaluations that will assist that body in the formulation of guidelines with regard to the awarding of scholarships. The committee is also the body that will hear appeals if an athlete wants to challenge the discontinuation of a scholarship.

5. University Procedure 13.03.01.C3.01, Procedures for Establishing and Awarding Athletic Scholarships, provides additional information on academic scholarships.
