Addendum to 09.02.99.C1.01 University Identification Guidelines
Any University institutes, divisions or offices who receive University funding must apply for an exemption from University guidelines to allow them to use a separate logo on promotional and informational materials, including a Web site.
Officially recognized student organizations (such as Island Waves, Panhellenic Council, etc.) are exempt from this requirement. However, University departments working with students and student organizations would not be exempt.
Justification
Institutes, divisions or offices can justify their use of a separate logo by demonstrating that they meet one or more of the following criteria:
| |
1. |
Serve a specialized, easily identifiable audience that is separate from the general University audience. |
| |
2. |
Generate an auxiliary revenue stream for the University that could be maximized with the use of separate identifying materials, i.e., to target very specific markets. |
| |
3. |
Operate primarily off-campus in non-academic-credit related activities. |
Institutes or divisions who believe that they meet one or more of the above criteria may present an application form including an explanation as to how they meet the criteria, and a proposed logo design. If none of the criteria are considered to be met, the application will be immediately rejected. If one or more of the criteria are met, the proposed logo design will be reviewed. Submitted designs will be either approved as is, or sent back to the applicant with suggestions for revision.
