Disabilities Advisory Council

Purpose or Function: The Disabilities Advisory Council focuses on issues involving services for students with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Reviews applications for services in situations involving non-standard cases or situations in which questions have arisen about appropriate accommodations and/or services for students. Makes recommendations regarding University rules and procedures, compliance with requirements, and requests to have certain University, College or programmatic requirements waived. Evaluates the current accommodations for persons with disabilities and recommends types of accommodations to be offered and physical modifications to be made on the campus.

Membership:
Membership includes the Dean of Students, one College Dean, three faculty members representing the fields of mathematics, foreign language and reading, and representatives from the Services for Students with Disabilities office, the Tutoring and Learning Center, the University Counseling Center, and Student Affairs. The Dean of Students and the Services for Students with Disabilities representative are ex-officio members.
