No Regrets

When Dr. Tim Wells was recruited to teach at Texas A&I University-Corpus Christi in the early 1970s, he planned to stay a few years. He never imagined that he would teach in the College of Education for 38 years. The professor of Teacher Education, who says he has no regrets, grew fond of the campus and witnessed the University’s amazing transformation. His time spent working with students, faculty and administrators and in the public schools has been a rewarding experience. He recognizes the supportive environment as one of his main reasons for turning down other job opportunities. Wells, who retired in August, delivered the keynote address to around 470 students at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s 2011 summer commencement. Wells was one of the developers of the University’s innovative field-based teacher education program and served as the director of field experiences for 12 years. He has also taught Educational Administration and has been the site professor at Driscoll Middle School for the last 10 years. He served as president of the Texas Directors of Field Experiences, as an executive board member of the Consortium of State Organization for Texas Teacher Certification, and as a member of the Texas Teacher Educators Executive Board.  He is past sponsor of the Student Education Association and past co-sponsor of Kappa Delta Pi, the honorary education fraternity. Wells graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in 1966. He earned his Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction in 1968, followed by his Ed.D. in 1973, from Oklahoma State University. After working as a teacher and principal/superintendent in Cushing, Okla., he joined the University faculty in 1973 as an assistant professor. While at the University, he has provided continuous teaching, research and service to Texas A&I University-Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi State University and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He has conducted more than 50 workshops emphasizing curriculum and development and teaching techniques at both the elementary and secondary levels.
