Job Satisfaction
For David Davila, riding his motorcycle down scenic Ocean Drive is one of many perks that come with working at the Island University. The other advantage for the associate director for Purchasing is having lunch at the University Center with his son, David, and daughter, Krystal, who will both graduate from the Island University in fall 2010. However Davila’s job satisfaction comes from training his employees to assist staff from other departments in correctly processing procurements. Davila, a Corpus Christi State University alumnus (BBA ’82), joined the University staff in 2004 as assistant director of Purchasing. Davila was recently elected to a one-year term as president of the Institute for Supply Management–Corpus Christi, Inc. (ISM –Corpus Christi, Inc.), formally known as National Association of Purchasing Managers-Corpus Christi, Inc. Davila has been a member for more than 10 years and served on the board of directors during that time. He is gearing up for this year’s ISM-Corpus Christi fundraiser to benefit the American Diabetes Association. Davila is also a parliament officer for the University’s Staff Advisory Council, a member of the Anchor Alumni Club and a regular volunteer for commencements, ring ceremonies and freshmen orientations. In addition, he holds certifications in Accredited Purchasing Practitioner, and Certified Purchasing Manager from Institute for Supply Management, Inc.; and Certified Business Manager from the Association of Professionals in Business Management. Davila places a strong emphasis on family, so he and his wife, Krystie, lend time to volunteer for their children’s Delta Chi and Tri Delta events. For the last three years, Davila has served as a driver for the Salvation Army’s Meals on Wheels serving hot coffee and sandwiches to the homeless during winter months. Every day, he visits and shares coffee with his 85-year-old parents who live in the city.
