Building Life's Quality
Jacqueline Hamilton considers herself fortunate to be able to help students, faculty, and staff improve their health and wellness through the Recreational Sports programs offered at the Dugan Wellness Center. As Rec Sports director, she has been involved since the early planning stages in the 67,000-square foot project which opened in January 2009. She says the new center, which has generated much excitement on campus, will strongly impact recruitment and retention and create more visibility for the Island University. She says not only is exercise the fountain of youth, it can reduce your health care costs in the long run, and help you maintain a high quality of life - plus it's fun! Hamilton, who received her doctorate in Educational Leadership this summer, began her career at the University in 2001 as an events coordinator at the University Center. She also teaches courses in the Department of Kinesiology, is a life member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and has held numerous organizational titles. The NIRSA certified recreational sports specialist is an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer. In addition, Hamilton volunteers at commencement ceremonies each semester and beach cleanups, and has served on the Staff Advisory Council. To stay fit, the Michigan native rides her bike to work daily, walks the Hike and Bike Trail and enjoys the outdoors. She is married to fellow University alumnus Steve Hamilton.
