Communications major Rob Boscamp is laying the foundation for an exciting career in journalism after graduation. The senior from Skidmore, Texas, who is minoring in theatre and journalism, is on the Dean's List, maintains a 3.75 grade point average and has earned around a dozen theatre and academic scholarships. Recently, Boscamp produced stories for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times through the Scripps Howard Foundation Summer Internship and is currently a freelance writer for the paper. In addition, he is managing editor for the Island Waves Student Newspaper, and has also served as news editor, sports editor and staff reporter and has received the Island Waves Best Sports Story Award, Island Waves Staff Member of the Year and other honors. He has also been recognized for his work by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association. Boscamp, who thrives on unpredictable newsroom assignments, says reporting has allowed him to meet interesting people and overcome his shyness. He is a member of several organizations including Lambda Pi Eta, Golden Key International Honour Society, National Society of Honor Scholars, the Baptist Student Ministry and the Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. In addition, he has participated in Student Government, E.D.G.E. Leadership and several volunteer beach clean-ups. The former Lone Star Wrestling ring announcer also remains active in theatre and has been involved as an usher in recent University productions. Boscamp is also considering obtaining a master's degree and teacher certification to provide him with other possible career opportunities.
