Exploring the Mother Lagoon
For a Texas Laguna Madre expert, look no further than Dr. David McKee, professor of biology and mariculture. McKee's latest book "Fishes of the Texas Laguna Madre" covers the history of the "Mother Lagoon" and provides insights into the characteristics and habits of the fish found in this hyper-saline environment, especially the "Big 5" coastal sport fish. McKee has been involved in numerous mariculture-related activities at the local, state, national, and international levels since arriving in 1985 at Corpus Christi State University. Recently, he received the Coastal Bend Bays Foundation's Conservation and Environmental Stewardship Award in Higher Education. For nearly 20 years, McKee's Marine Ecology classes have analyzed water quality and marine animals from Oso Bay, giving it a clean bill of health.
