Our Own Human Computer
Since 2002 Dr. John Fernandez, chair of the Department of Computing Sciences, has secured more than $4.5 million in federal, state and private funds for the University. His contributions to the Hispanic community earned him the 2008 Outstanding MAEStro Award presented by the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES). Recently, Fernandez was named vice chairman for the Corpus Christi Digital Community Development Corporation and is the Rogelio "Roger" Benavides Chair in Computer Sciences. Fernandez, whose research interests are in human computer interaction and software engineering, has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals.
