Bridging University and Community
As the Director of Workforce Development for the Office of Community Outreach, Carole Peterson connects University and community resources to enhance the Coastal Bend economy and workforce. She oversees programs as varied as continuing education, certification testing, community engagement and business consulting. She penned grant proposals that brought the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities regional workforce conference to Corpus Christi in 2003 and launched the "Youth in Technology Career Camp" in 2007. She co-authored "In Our Backyards: Public and Private Gardens of the Texas Coastal Bend" with MFA candidate John Watson as a fundraiser for the South Texas Botanical Gardens. Four years ago she spearheaded the first "Heart Gallery of South Texas" exhibition, a collaboration between the College of Liberal Arts and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Peterson has been with the University eight years and completed her MBA in August.
