Noelle Ballmer, who is deeply committed to the success of our University students, strives to create a nurturing learning environment as the coordinator of the CASA Writing Center, located in the Glasscock Student Success Center. Ballmer, who has 11 years experience in the field of writing centers, has seen the program flourish in her six years with the Writing Center. Each day, she oversees nine writing consultants who have directly worked with students during around 2,700 semester visits in which students can get feedback on their papers, learn how to properly document sources and receive help on their thesis and dissertation. Her joy comes from helping students build their confidence by helping them to improve their writing skills, which they will carry beyond graduation and into their careers. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi alumnus received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from the University. As a student, Ballmer was the recipient of a 2008 Haas Writing Award for Graduate technical writing and has received numerous scholarships. She is working on her Doctor of Philosophy, Curriculum and Instruction and is an adjunct professor for the First Year Writing Program, and teaching English 1301 and 1302. Outside the classroom, Ballmer has presented at numerous conferences across the state and nation, including those for the International Writing Centers Association, and for research writing workshops at the University. She has co-authored publications which include “Building the 21st Century Writing Community” in the “Journal of College Reading and Learning” (Spring 2009) and “On the Fence/Sobre el muro: Attitudes Toward English Language Legislation” in the “Texas Linguistic Forum” also that year. She has served on the conference planning committee of the Coastal Bend Writing Project and as a reviewer of the “The Best of Rhetoric and Composition 2010: Essays from Independent Journals.” Ballmer is a member of the College English Association, the International Writing Centers Association and the National Council of Teachers of English.
