Softball All-Star
Islanders Softball Team Captain Margo Hurdt has been impressed with the how the student body has supported the Athletic Department. The designated hitter from the Boerne/San Antonio, Texas, area treasures being part of the Islanders team and a close-knit University community. Hurdt believes she has met friends at the Island University that she will have for a lifetime. She arrived at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in fall 2006, after accepting “the best offer” to play softball. And, the convenient location of the University was only about two hours away from her family. She owes her gratitude to her father, who introduced her, at age 7, and her sisters to softball. He educated himself on the sport and coached his daughters, showing them the best methods for pitching and hitting. These days, Hurdt continues to achieve much success. In April 2009, Hurdt was named Southland Conference “Hitter of the Week” and she made All-SLC Third Team that same year. She has also been a starter for the last four years. Being on the softball team has given her opportunities to travel and compete in Miami, Fla., and Honolulu, Hawaii. Every semester, she has made the Commissioner’s Academic List and the Athletic Director Honor Roll. This May, Hurdt will graduate with a marketing degree and has plans to go “wherever the job takes her.” In her spare time, she enjoys listening to a variety of music and watching episodes of the TV show “Lost.”
